The Hiawatha Cemetery sits on a hill between the fourth and fifth fare ways of the
Hiawatha Country Club golf course.  While 121 names grace the monument for the
cemetery it is believed that there are actually more bodies buried within the
cemetery - and probably beyond its boundaries as well.

Being that the cemetery is on the National Historic Register it is a public place and
people are allowed to visit and pay their respects.  The best course of travel to get
to the cemetery is to park at the back of the golf course and walk down between
the fare ways.  People need to keep in mind that the golf course IS private property
and that while visiting the cemetery they should refrain from interfering with the
golfers.

There are some golfers that will actually take the time to escort visitors to the
cemetery - we've been very lucky to come in contact with some of these people
over the years.  At the same time, there are those who would just as soon aim a golf
ball in the direction of visitors so it is best to err on the side of caution, being
polite and courteous to those they come in contact with on the golf course.

The cemetery is kept up by the Hiawatha Country Club and is normally in fairly good
repair.  There are only two cemetery markers within the cemetery, along with the
monument.  It is believed that at one time there was another marker but it was
stolen or relocated when a body was disinterred to be returned to their family.  No
attempt to verify this has been made at this time.
